while I can’t help you with all of those (although I do share what finds I come across on instagram so do keep an eye on my stories there!) one thing I can help with is documenting this big day! Back to School Traditions So here we go again, ticking off the back to school items one by one – buying uniforms, shoes, lunchboxes and water bottles, backpacks, stationery and masks, booking haircuts, doctors and dentists appointments, paying fees, completing travel declarations….and so on and so on…. All those things that we took for granted pre-Covid or even dreaded – a calendar full of class birthday parties, week after week, remembering to pack swimming kits and hoping they make it home at the end of the day and are not left soaking wet to fester in a cubby – these things may get tiresome soon enough but I for one won’t be complaining for a little while at least! Get Ready! I feel emotional even thinking about kids playing on playground equipment again, eating together in the canteen, sitting on a school bus filled with nervous excitement on the way to a field trip. I really hope that everyone continues to stay vigilant, take precautions and respect the rules that are in place to protect our communities so that we can stay in school and stay safe. Our school will no longer be splitting classes up on a daily basis into clusters and I’m just so grateful for the stability and consistency that will bring to this new school year. Sports and swimming activities are back on the agenda, as are field trips, school concerts and plays! Yay! Over 90% of teachers in Dubai are vaccinated and while masks will still be required and sanitization protocols strictly enforced, there will be a move to full in-person teaching for all schools and pupils from October. It feels like we are all ready for school to get started! A New StartĪs information starts to trickle in on what this new school year will look like, there is a growing sense of hope for a return to some sort of “normalcy” for those of us in Dubai anyway. Our second long, hot summer in Dubai is coming to a close and my social media feeds have changed from snaps of European towns and countryside to airports and planes as those that did manage to travel this summer now make their way back home.
