Others are objecting because Eddie does not have a Gender Recognition Certificate. Labour now has more female than male MPs and have been advised that to use all women selection lists may be in breach of the Equality Act. Other objections were that this is an all-woman selection list, and she should not be included. She uses she/her pronouns – and she is entitled to use whatever pronouns she is comfortable with. Actually, I watched the video, and she did not say “I am a woman,” she said “I am Trans.” I have watched other videos and read interviews and articles and in all of them Eddie defines as Trans or transgender or a trans woman. Many comment that ‘Eddie is a man not a woman’. ![]() Had it been any other protected characteristic, their comments would have been considered harassment or worse. The other negative comments are more concerning because they are objections from TERF’s, and I have used that term despite knowing that many so called “gender critical” feminists consider it a slur, because most of their comments are objecting just because Eddie is trans. ![]() I can understand that, although Eddie has some connection with Sheffield and has been a very active labour campaigner and supporter for the past 15 years, also serving on the National Executive, so does have a lot of political experience. There are those who object to Eddie standing in Sheffield when there is a local candidate. The negative comments fall into two camps. When she was asked about the confusion of pronouns and how people would have to address her and not offend her she said, “I prefer she/her, I don’t mind he/him. She recalled a time when a woman referred to her as “she” and “her” and how “she/her pronouns hits a positivity.” But ever since 2020, she announced that she wanted to be based in a “girl mode”. In 2017 when she came out as trans, she said that she was in a “boy and girl mode”. The British comedian began using she/her pronouns officially in 2020. I don’t call myself that and so I have Suzy and then Eddie and then people can choose what they want. She said, “I’ve got Edward on my passport and it’s quite wooden and big. Suzy also spoke about how Eddie Izzard will continue to be her public name, but wants to leave it to those who wish to address her the way they want to. In an interview with Matt Forde on The Political Partypodcast she said, “There’s another name I’m gonna add in as well. The comedian speaks out about being trans on The Political Party podcast BY ADISHRI CHENGAPPA, IMAGE BY AMANDA SEARLEĮddie Izzard, comedian and political activist, has mentioned a new name that she’s wanted to use since she was 10. ![]()
